How viruses could reduce antibiotic resistance
Many disease-causing bacteria are developing resistance to antibiotics that we’ve relied on for nearly a century. As this resistance grows, could bacteriophages – bacteria-eating viruses – replace antibiotics as a treatment? Microbiologist Professor Martha Clokie explains the different ways phages can be used alongside antibiotics, to maximise our defences against infection.
