Horrible Histories special school assembly
Three special Horrible Histories episodes were filmed in Coventry. They were all based on local historical characters and two of the episodes were shown to local school children.
The Executive Producer of Lion TV Simon Welton, and Horrible Histories song composer Richie Webb hosted a special assembly for children at Joseph Cash Primary School to unveil to new Coventry-based films
The team spent two days in the city filming sketches based on Lady Godiva and Margaret of Anjou as well as a song for Ira Aldridge, after conversations with the team from the Coventry City of Culture Trust and Historic Coventry. The show is based on the Horrible Histories books by Terry Deary, first published by Scholastic.
Legend has it that Coventry icon Lady Godiva rode naked through the streets of the city in protest against her husband, the Earl of Mercia鈥檚 high taxes.
Queen Margaret of Anjou was the wife of Henry VI and played an active role in national affairs, including choosing Coventry as the home of the royal family and effectively making it the capital city during the 15th Century.
Ira Aldridge, an anti-slavery campaigner, was the first black actor to play Othello and managed a theatre in the city in 1828.
Jess Ransom stars as Lady Godiva and Queen Margaret of Anjou, Javone Prince plays Ira Aldridge and Tom Stourton features as a journalist and other characters.
