Marta's story - "I don't know when I'll see my home again"
The Head of the 麻豆社's Ukrainian Service, Marta Shokalo, tells her story as she and her young son flee their home not knowing when they might be able to go back.
Marta was awake at night when she got a message from a colleague about Vladimir Putin's speech announcing an invasion. Then immediately the explosions began. She could hear them from her home, and people in different parts of the city started sending messages to her WhatsApp group, about explosions happening nearby. Marta was in shock as she realised there is no safe place in Ukraine any more. She dressed her 10-year-old son, they had some breakfast, sitting as far from the windows as they could, but he was so scared he vomited. And now, they've fled their home not knowing when they'll be able to go back. For 5 Minutes On, Marta speaks to the 麻豆社's Chief International Correspondent, Lyse Doucet.
