South African singer songwriter Msaki talks to Newsday about her new album, Platinumb Heart.

The album, which draws on folk, jazz, traditional African melodies and electronic beats is a complex conversation between protest and love.

Msaki says it has helped her address her feelings about the state of South African society, which "on paper has a beautiful democracy".
