Chile: Leftist 'millennial' wins presidential election
In Chile, the left-wing candidate Gabriel Boric has won one of the most polarised presidential election in recent decades.
The two politicians standing represented polar opposite stand-points: The right-wing candidate Jose Antonio Kast defended the legacy of the dictator General Pinochet and was an ultra conservative law and order candidate. But it was his opponent, Gabriel Boric, a former student protest leader who promised social change who won, with around 55% of the vote.
The 麻豆社's Pascal Fletcher monitored the vote from Miami.
"There's considerable relief both in Chile and outside Chile that this looks like a very peaceful transition.聽 Both candidates including the defeated candidate Jose Antonio Kast have been very conciliatory and talked about building bridges... There were fears about political extremism and that seems to have been avoided."
