A new project at Coventry Cathedral, ‘Broken Angel’, will see a sequence of new site-specific works temporarily replace the ‘Angel of the Eternal Gospel’, a figure in John Hutton’s great glass ‘West Screen’ destroyed in an act of vandalism in 2020.

Anne Petters will be the first artist, making a new work to be installed in November 2021 until February 2022.

Anne Petters grew up in Dresden. Her work has been shown in the USA and Europe. Since 2017 she has had a studio in the UK following her appointment as Fellow in Glass at the City and Guilds of London school.

Anne describes her practice as “an attempt to visualise and materialise the poetic spiritual space of the everyday“. She uses glass, light and natural phenomena to make objects and installations that create a sense of wonder and curiosity in the viewer. Her work challenges our ideas of fragility and the passage of time.

The project will include an active approach to public engagement, which will develop into the future projects also responding to the space left by the broken Angel of the West Screen.

Advisory curator working with the Cathedral for the project is Professor Michael Tooby.
