The HGV driver shortage - plugging the gap

麻豆社 reporter, Tim Muffett, explores why so many HGV drivers have left the industry, what's being done to plug the gap - and the impact this is having on Britain's supply chains.

The government has announced it's issuing 5,000 temporary short term visas for foreign lorry drivers until Christmas Eve to address what's been described as the "absolute crisis" in supply chains across Britain. Ministers have been forced to look abroad for drivers after the supply difficulties experienced by supermarkets reached petrol stations. The Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, says the visas for the haulage industry will help in the run-up to Christmas, but the longer-term solution is training up more British drivers.

For our Five Minutes On podcast - 麻豆社 reporter, Tim Muffett, has got behind the wheel to find out what's behind the problem, its impact - and what one company is doing to try to plug the gap.
