Mahatma Gandhi
Rattus gets Gandhi and Sarojini Naidu to discuss peaceful protest - and bees!
The writers and cast behind Horrible Histories wonder what it might be like if Gandhi had his own podcast. It is set shortly before Indian Independence.
Activist, Sarojini Naidu co-hosts this pod with Gandhi. Together they discuss some of the peaceful protest techniques they used to start bringing about the end of Colonial Rule. We also find out about Gandhi’s love of nature and spinning wheels!
There is a quiz question about the fact that in his later years Gandhi had a habit of relying on family members to help him walk, rather than using walking sticks.
Their special guest is the former King of England, now Duke of Windsor, Edward. The Duke is rather miffed at how underwhelmingly he was received during his last visit to India. Naidu and Gandhi point out that it was a form of peaceful resistance.
Rattus offers some context at the top and tail of the episode, which also features one song from the TV series – Empress of India and entirely original song created specifically for this podcast – Give Peaceful Protest a Chance.
The minipod that goes with this episode features a deleted scene in which Gandhi plays Naidu mock football results from matches between some of the South African Football Teams he established when he was younger – and gave the exact same team names to them all!
