Testing for malaria with a phone
A test for Malaria using 3D printed wax paper linked to a smartphone has been successfully trialled amongst school children in Uganda. As Jon Cooper and Julien Reboud from the University of Glasgow explain, the smartphone is used to power the heater needed to run the test. It also collates the results and checks them against a database to determine the kind of malaria in the samples.
