Two women from Leicester become 'friends for life' thanks to a telephone buddy scheme during lockdown
Two women from Leicester who've never met have become 'friends for life' thanks to a telephone buddy scheme during lockdown.
But they鈥檝e met for the first time with the help of 麻豆社 Radio Leicester鈥檚 Ben Jackson - virtually of course!
Sue Stevenson from Oadby and Soorootee Madhub who lives in Hamilton were first introduced to each other through the Macmillan Cancer Support telephone buddy scheme during lockdown a year ago, and have been speaking on the phone every week since.
It was after Sue sadly lost her son to cancer when he was just 19 years old, and wanted to do something in his memory to help others going through cancer and thank the Macmillan nurses who cared for him.
So last year she signed up to become a volunteer on the Telephone Buddies scheme and was paired with mum of two Soorootee who lives just five miles away. Soorootee had been diagnosed with breast cancer in March.
