Why do we hear so little about male victims of forced marriage?
Figures released today from the UK鈥檚 Home Office show that 鈥 despite forced marriage cases falling in 2020 鈥 male victims continue to make up a fifth of cases that the Forced Marriage Unit deal with.
But charities and a former victim say that there has never been enough support for them, and that this isn鈥檛 getting any better. The 麻豆社's Sophia Smith Galer and Sa鈥檃d Azam spoke to Ankur Desai on the Big Debate.
Sa鈥檃d explains how he ran away from home when he realised he'd be forced to marry. He says he felt 鈥渁lienated and ghosted鈥 when he contacted his university and charities. He recommends young people reach out to get help if they believe they may be forced into marriage.
