Coventry's hidden gem
Historic Coventry Trust are launching a collection of poems in new podcast to be enjoyed whilst walking through the recently refurbished London Road Cemetery:Paxton’s Arboretum.
The collection of poems written by Coventry poet Emilie Lauren Jones have been inspired by stories revealed in the cemetery and can best be enjoyed within the recently restored London Road Cemetery: Paxtons’ Arboretum.
The site itself is an unknown Coventry landmark to many in the city and Historic Coventry Trust hope the podcast will help visitors to learn more about the site and the role it's played through the years of Coventry's past.
Together alongside Coventry City Council, and local community groups, Historic Coventry Trust have used Heritage Lottery funding to carry out urgent repairs.
The site close to the Charterhouse Heritage Park offer has seen specialist works carried out to restore many of the Cemetery's historical features including balustrades along the promenade being reinstated, restoration of the bier store and mortuary Chapel. Also a full restoration of the Anglican Chapel with repair and reinstatement of the rose window and stained glass and restoration of the spire and walls.
It's hoped the site will become a local attraction for people across the city to enjoy.
