Wajiha Naqvi
Pakistan's biggest music show has returned for it's 13th season. Coke Studio began in 2008 featuring live studio-recorded music performances by established and emerging artists.
Created by Rohail Hyatt, the former member of Vital Signs produced the music for the first six seasons, before leaving the franchise only to return for season twelve.
This thirteenth season, titled Coke Studio 2020, premiered on 4th December with "Na Tutteya Ve" an all-female anthem with vocals by Meesha Shafi, Fariha Pervez, Sanam Marvi, Sehar Gul Khan, Zara Madani and Wajiha Naqvi.
In the first of our special interviews Talat-Farooq Awan spoke to artist Wajiha Naqvi. Wajiha has been involved in music from a young age, singing at gigs during her student days and even studied music through its literature, poetry and history.
More recently she's been under formal training in eastern classical music from Rauf Saami the son of Ustad Naseeruddin Saami and in 2018, she got her big break when she joined Coke Studio's house band as a backing vocalist on Season 11.
In December she's stepped up to the mic performing her lead debut with a modern Raga Rock track "Yaqeen". She first tells Talat about her academic background in cultural anthropology.
