Returning home to protect my ancestral lands
President Trump is rushing to approve a final wave of mining and energy projects on forest land across the US, before he leaves office in January. Environmentalists and activists are alarmed by the initiative and say it will devastate millions of acres of forest in several states including Nevada, Utah and South Dakota.
In the state of Arizona, the land is expected to be used for the construction of one of the largest copper mines in the country. However, the land is considered sacred by Native American tribes. Newsday spoke to Wendsler Nosie Senior, a former San Carlos Apache tribal leader who is protesting against the mine.
