14/01 - Renting in Guernsey

A big discussion about renting in Guernsey and why it's proving difficult right now.

High demand for renting property in Guernsey means that rates are rising, and landlords are able to be highly selective when choosing tenants. Guernsey's Citizens Advice Bureau is warning the lack of availability of accommodation is leaving some islanders in a vulnerable position. But Jeff Guilbert - the Chairman of the Guernsey Landlords Association - says renting out properties is still fundamentally a business, and suggests if people in social housing made sacrifices they鈥檇 be able to "afford their own property."
