Recruitment scams: 'It makes you question how protected you are'
The pandemic has created a spike in unemployment and an increase in people applying for work online. With the excuse of social distancing for not meeting in person, fraudsters are playing on people's hopes of finding a quick job from afar, stealing their information or even getting them to hand over money. Bibi Rashid from Leeds in the UK applied for a job via an online recruitment site and was delighted to be offered a job - but ended up being out of pocket when she spent on money for training that never took place. Bibi outlines her story to reporter Matthew Murphy, and Carl Miller, technology and cyber crime researcher, explains the risk:
"The pandemic has made something [that was] already pretty bad, much worse."
