Martin Lewis: ‘Systemic flaws’ with new Green Home Grants
Kate from Banbury contacted Martin Lewis to say she had tried to take part in the scheme, but can’t find any accredited installers within a 50 mile radius.
Personal finance expert Martin Lewis has said the government’s new Green Home Grant scheme has ’systemic flaws’.
Under the scheme, the government will pay at least two-thirds of the cost of home improvements in England that save energy, provided the work is carried out by an accredited supplier and is completed by 31 March 2021.
Kate from Banbury contacted Martin Lewis to say she had tried to take part in the scheme, but can’t find any accredited installers within a 50 mile radius.
A Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy spokesperson said:
“The Green Homes Grant is time-limited to give the economy an immediate boost by supporting tens of thousands of jobs to make over 600,000 homes warmer and cheaper to heat in just six months.
“Almost 1000 companies have signed up so far with more registering every day, including many businesses that operate nationally with substantial capacity to carry out work across the country. We are working closely with industry to ensure there are enough installers to meet demand.â€
