The UK plunges into deepest recession after the worst quarterly fall in output on record
The coronavirus pandemic has sent Britain into recession for the first time since the 2008 financial crisis. Figures published by the Office for National Statistics this morning show that economic output as measured by Gross Domestic Product plunged by a record 20.4% between April and June compared with the first three months of the year.
