If you’ve ever questioned why the Â鶹Éç Proms exist, the answer is to promote music of the quality of Lamia. First performed in the 1919 season, Henry Wood was so impressed he performed it again 3 days later. The subject is the heroine of Keats’ famous poem; the music shows an appreciation of Debussy’s orchestration, all wrapped up in a very English sound world.
