PSNI custody officer pleads for help to be better protected
We are being assaulted and spat at - and we don鈥檛 have enough PPE to protect us against the virus. A plea to PSNI bosses for help - from some of their staff. We've been contacted by a custody officer, who has told this programme about their grave concerns over what they believe is substandard PPE provided for staff, and some very serious questions over how they are separating out covid19 suspected detainees, from those without symptoms. Custody officers are yet another set of key, front line workers in the midst of this pandemic. They process, filter and monitor those in the custody of the PSNI. This job involves them being hands on, face to face, and in close proximity with other people. They are also subject to attack and being spat at - all concerns which are amplified with the threat of the coronavirus.
