Holocaust survivor Martin Stern on how he was taken from school by the Nazis, aged 5
The guest speaker at the Holocaust Memorial Day event in Cardiff City Hall was Dr Martin Stern MBE. Dr Stern eventually settled in the UK and went on to become a leading physician in the treatment of asthma. But as a young child he and his family fled Nazi Germany to the Netherlands, only to face danger again when the Nazis invaded. Here he tells the tragic story of how and why he was singled out in his classroom in Amsterdam, aged just five, and taken to a Nazi interrogation centre.
