The legacy tech solving sea accident mysteries
Ships can sail the ocean for decades and often tech on board will not be upgraded. This can prove challenging when investigating collisions, fires and other incidents at sea, as investigators might be faced with having to download data from computers that are 30 years old. Richard North, technical manager at the UK鈥檚 Marine Accident Investigation Branch, explains some of the challenges he faces when downloading data from so-called legacy technology.
