US President Donald Trump has demanded funding for his long-promised US-Mexico border wall to halt "a growing humanitarian and security crisis". The president escalated a stand-off with Congress that has led to an 18-day partial government shutdown in an address broadcast on major TV networks.
In a televised rebuttal, Democratic leaders accused the president of holding the American people hostage. So, how are they likely to respond?
