The image that changed me
American photographer Lynsey Addario is one of the few women on the frontline, documentating major wars and humanitarian crises around the world. In 2009 she was embedded with the US Marines in Southern Afghanistan and she followed the medical team as they tried to save a young soldier who had been gravely injured. Her powerful image from that night shows the exhausted team as they pay their respects to the soldier, his body draped with the US flag. Afterwards Lynsey had to seek permission from the family to publish the image as they dealt with their grief.
