Ghana assures Nigerians and ECOWAS citizens they have freedom to operate
Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has assured Nigerians and other ECOWAS citizens in Ghana of their freedom to operate their businesses with ease following a crackdown that led to the close of over 400 foreign owned shops and businesses.
The saga sparked a diplomatic row and is just one example of the various instances of the hurdles that exist for intra Africa trade.
Currently the continent trades far less with itself than it does with the rest of the world.
According to the African Development Bank Group, Intra-African trade stands at about 15%, compared to 60% intra- Asian and 70% intra-European trade.
There are various initiatives afoot through to help boost trade between various African nations including creating one large Africa wide market for goods and services dubbed the Africa wide Free Trade Area.
