1947: A dress for a princess in 'austerity Britain'
Post-war austerity meant clothing was rationed via clothing coupons. Even Princess Elizabeth had to conform, and was given 100 coupons for her dress, and her bridesmaids 23. Commentators describe how people around Britain donated their own coupons - which were returned - and some unusual wedding gifts.
