Paralysed man “left waiting” for adapted home

Paul Perry has been living in a hospital for people with brain injuries for over a year and a half, but he’s desperate to get a place of his own.

He joined the council waiting list in December 2016, but he is yet to be housed in a suitable property. “I was hoping I was only going to come here for a few months… it’s just not good enough”.

Paul used be very active and worked as a security guard, but following a motorbike accident, he was left paralysed from the neck down.

He told 5 live Investigates that to not be offered a suitable property is “outrageous”.

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council told us “there is a shortage of social housing” and adapted homes are available “even less frequently”. They say they will keep him better informed in the future.

This clip is taken from 5 live Investigates on Sunday 11 March 2018.
