High-rise fire safety standards 'disgraceful'
Several faulty fire doors have been highlighted to us at Rotterdam Towers in Southampton. We were shown fire doors which don't fully close or have broken handles.
Local Councillor Andrew Pope describes the situation as "disgraceful" as he showed us round the building and highlighted that landlords have failed to meet minimum fire safety requirements.
After reviewing the footage we obtained at Rotterdam Towers, Dr Stephen Battersby, Vice President of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health said that 6 months after the Grenfell tragedy he is "amazed that these conditions still exist" and that for current residents - "their safety is at risk".
Southampton City Council say they are undertaking an extensive programme of improvements to all their tower blocks - including the installation of sprinklers and the inspection of fire doors.
