Car park charges are set to start at Newlands Corner in early 2018. Surrey County Council is ready to spend 拢122,000 installing parking meters and refurbishing the toilets at the beauty spot near Guildford and is close to a deal with land owners, the Albury Estate. The council plans to allow 20 minutes of free parking then charge 拢1-an-hour up to a maximum of 拢4. But campaigners say registered commons like Newlands Corner should be free to access and that charges will deter poorer visitors.
