Plastic straws: 5 minutes use - a 500 year impact
The UN鈥檚 Environment Programme has told 5 live Breakfast that big businesses operating in the UK should ban single-use plastic straws.
Sam Barratt, Chief of Public Advocacy said: 鈥淧lastic straws are used for less than five minutes but their legacy on the planet is up to 500 years."
鈥淭he sea is becoming almost like a plastic soup of lots of different bits and pieces that are entering the ecosystem, going into the stomachs of fish and causing all kinds of problems.鈥
