Mexico quake survivor: ‘I had to evacuate the building as quickly as possible’
More than 200 people have been killed after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit central Mexico. Thousands of rescue workers and volunteers have been clawing through the rubble with picks, shovels and their bare hands to try to free others who are still trapped. The earthquake caused 50 buildings to collapse including a school, where dozens of children are thought to have been killed.
Vanessa Buendia was at home in Mexico City when the quake struck and told 5 live:
“I got out [of the house] as quickly as possible.â€
“I think we’re all very nervous and we’re just very focused on the rescue efforts.â€
