Why is the public sector pay cap being lifted?
The government is expected to lift the 1% public sector pay cap for police and prison officers, on the back of reports from independent pay review bodies, which raised concerns about recruitment and retention.
Daily Politics presenter Jo Coburn looked at the timing of the move, and the fact that Conservatives failed to back a previous opposition bid for a pay rise, with Labour MP Anneliese Dodds and Tory MP Kwasi Kwarteng.
