May's gamble fails
Theresa May called a UK election to strengthen her hand. Instead, she weakened it.
The British prime minister, Theresa May, called a general election she didn't need to, with a view to increasing her majority. But she lost so many seats that her majority disappeared - though her Conservatives are still the single largest party. Her Brexit talks just became a whole lot more complicated.
