London police warn of an increase in moped ‘phone snatches’
Police in London are warning the public to be vigilant after an increase in thieves riding mopeds to steal mobile phones and bags. One victim was left with a broken leg recently after an attempted robbery on Park Lane involving four mopeds. Thieves have also been seen riding with hammers and crowbars around Regent Street.
Detective Inspector Mark Chapman from the City of London Police, told 5 live’s Anna Foster people should “be aware of their surroundings and consider using hands-free devices.”
He also says people should avoid making a call or text near to the roadside.
