It's a growing trend among some British parents to celebrate their child's first birthday: the act of so-called 'cake smashing'. It's when a one-year-old gets very messy with a cake and a professional photographer is on hand to capture the moment.

Charlotte Wells took her one-year-old son Austin to a cake smashing photo shoot. She told 5 live "it was the perfect way for us to celebrate Austin turning one."

Photographer Sally Slack has been inundated with requests from eager parents. She explains it's all about the child 'having fun'.
