The US has dropped one of its largest bombs on hideouts of so-called Islamic State
The United States has for the first time used one of its largest conventional bombs, dropping it on hideouts of the so-called Islamic State group in Afghanistan.
PJ Crowley, former assistant secretary of state under President Obama, says President Trump is "loosening the reins" on the military and giving them freedom of action. Professor Michael Clarke, former director general of defence and security think tank RUSI, says the attack may not have been initiated by President Trump but he will be "happy to take credit for it".
