Oxford Book Club - Valentine's Special
It's Valentine's Day and Sophie Law is standing in for David Prever at the 麻豆社 Oxford Book Club. Sophie's joined by the novelist and Sunday Times book critic Lucy Atkins for a special, romantic edition. Lucy has selected four very different books which all have love as a central theme. Persuasion is Jane Austen's final novel - "a beautiful, beautiful, mature book about enduring love" which contains "the best scene of love in the whole of English literature". Kazuo Ishiguro's classic The Remains of the Day is "incredibly sad and powerful book about unrequited love". "Subtle, powerful and brilliant". Lucy also picks two recent releases: Sebastian Barry's Costa Prize winning novel Day's Without End, and Sarah Perry's hugely popular The Essex Serpent.
