'We haven't seen these creatures here since the Ice Age'

You've swallowed plenty without realising, some look like aliens, and they're at the centre of our food web: plankton. They are microscopic plants and animals which have existed in our seas for millions of years. But new problems such as pollution and climate change have altered the behaviours of these vital creatures - meaning some plankton have moved back in to areas where they haven't been seen since the Ice Age. Scientists in charge of the world's oldest plankton recorder in Plymouth tell the 麻豆社's Emily Thomas how this affects what ends up on our plate, and how our seafood habits may have to adapt as quickly as the plankton have.
