Mark Radcliffe: Thanks Hank

Mark Radcliffe curates a one hour music special exploring the song-writing genius and wide-spread influence of one of country music’s biggest stars, Hank Williams

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of Hank Williams’ first single release, Hank-devotee Mark Radcliffe curates a one hour music special exploring the song-writing genius and wide-spread influence of ‘The King Of Country’.

Mark presents a selection of his personal favourite Hank tracks - and tracks influenced by Hank - and traces how this prolific country music star has influenced generations of music artists; from Elvis Presley to Sheryl Crow, Bob Dylan to Norah Jones.

Often credited with bringing country music into the mainstream, Hank has been a hugely important figure in the worlds of both country music and rock & roll. In his short career – he died at just 29 years old – he composed over 120 songs and recorded more than 220.

As part of his curated show, Mark also selects extracts of archive interviews with those close to Hank to illuminate the stories behind hits such as Jambalaya (On the Bayou), Your Cheatin’ Heart and I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry.
