Record number of prison suicides
A record number of people killed themselves in prisons in England and Wales in 2016, figures show.
The Ministry of Justice said there were 119 self-inflicted deaths - 29 more than the previous year and the highest number since records began in 1978.
Victoria Derbyshire spoke to Frances Crook, Chief Executive of The Howard League for Penal Reform, which is calling for a 'culture shift' in the mental health of prisoners, so more lives can be saved, Mick Horn, who has worked as a prison 'listener', a scheme run by the Samaritans and Michael Irwin, who received support from Mick through the peer support scheme.
