The frontman of the Hothouse Flowers had reservations about appearing in the show鈥檚 opening scene.
Fans around the world have now had a chance to see Clarkson, Hammond and May back in action - after the first episode of their new series The Grand Tour was released online. It's had rave reviews, especially for its extravagant opening sequence - rumoured to have cost over 2 million pounds.
It follows Jeremy Clarkson from a rainy London to the Mojave Desert, via Los Angeles. Thousands of extras were bussed into the desert to film it, as were Clarkson's favourite band - the Hothouse Flowers.
It means the band鈥檚 frontman Liam 脫 Maonlai has a starring role in the episode, despite the fact he didn鈥檛 really want to take part. 鈥淚鈥檓 not a big car fan and had my reservations about doing the show,鈥 he said. 鈥滻 told the band I don鈥檛 actually want to do it - as an artist you have to choose carefully what you give yourself and your energies to.鈥
So does he actually like Jeremy Clarkson? 鈥淗e鈥檚 a buoyant, extraordinary individual,鈥 he says. Read into that what you will.
