New Zealand mum: Burglars took everything after quake
New Zealand family were robbed after they left their home following the earthquake.
A family were robbed after leaving their home following the recent series of large earthquakes in New Zealand. The latest measured 6.3 and struck at around one o'clock in the morning our time. Two people died after an even larger quake a few hours earlier, and some people have been evacuated from their homes after a dam was breached.
Melissa Mill from New Brighton in Christchurch, took her family away from the area after a tsunami alert was issued. She said: 鈥淲e were all asleep and woken by a rolling earthquake 鈥 we got up to get the children away as there were tsunami warnings. My one daughter who has muscular dystrophy was our main concern.鈥
Melissa returned to find that burglars had stolen her husband鈥檚 work truck, and broken into their home. 鈥淭hey took a lot of our electronic stuff 鈥 including my youngest鈥檚 hearing aid equipment. The house was ransacked and we鈥檒l probably find more that鈥檚 missing,鈥 added the mother of two.
