Margaret Beckett: 'Trump is a horrible, vile man'
Former foreign secretary Dame Margaret Beckett has described US president-elect Donald Trump as a “horrible, vile man".
The MP for Derby South, who was foreign secretary between 2006 and 2007 said she had watched Trump "while he’s lied, slandered and abused everyone around him – not least his own colleagues in order to get the candidacy”.
Republican candidate Trump notched up 58 million votes as he defeated opponent Hillary Clinton after a bitterly-fought election campaign.
“People have chosen him and there’s an age old saying – be careful what you wish for,” Beckett told Emma Barnett on 5 live Daily.
However, MPs Philip Davies and Ian Paisley both told Emma Barnett that they were strong supporters of Donald Trump, and were delighted to see his election by American voters.
