Delegates from 24 countries and the European Union have agreed that the Ross Sea in Antarctica will become the world's largest marine protected area. 600,000 square miles of ocean will be protected from commercial fishing and mining for 35 years.
βIt is the largest protected area in the world now,β UN Patron of Oceans Lewis Pugh told 5 live Drive.
βIt is the size of Britain, France, Germany and Italy all put together and is one of the most incredible places on Earth.β
The area is home to an array of sea animals including leopard seals, emperor penguins and humpback whales.
