'We have seen turbulence in politics around the world'
Barack Obama has been president of the US for eight years and because of his Kenyan father, many Africans claimed him as "their" president as well.
In those eight years President Obama visited the continent three times and launched several initiatives, most prominently his Power Africa scheme - a plan to vastly increase access to electricity.
So, what about the next four years?
A staunch supporter and old friend of outgoing president Barack Obama, Patrick Gaspard has been the ambassador to South Africa for three years. He was born in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but raised in the US.
The 麻豆社's Lerato Mbele went to his residence in Pretoria to get his views on the relationship between the US and Africa... and on the upcoming US election.
