Police Assaults, Thai Boxing & NHS Waiting Times

Jonathan Lampon sits in alongside Jo to start your day with the latest news and updates.

In the last year there's been 330 recorded assaults on police officers in Leicestershire. That's according to the Police Federation - it adds up to a rate of almost one attack every day. According to the union which represents front desk staff, detention officers and PCSO's in Leicestershire, the figure could be even higher, as many aren't reporting assualts against them. We hear from the Federation, as well as Leicestershire Police.

Also, imagine winning multiple world titles in your chosen sport, having thousands of dedicated fans across the world, yet be able to pop into town with your mates completely unrecognised? Well that's a regular situation for 23 year old Muay Thai boxing champion Iman Barlow from Melton who recently successfully defended her world title belt at a huge bout in Europe. The flyweight trains at her family's gym in the back garden of their home in Melton Mowbray and as she told Jo Hayward when she went to see her last week - the sport, which demands high levels of skill and fitness, has been a way of life since she was a little girl.

And, patients in England who need planned NHS surgery are facing longer waiting times - according to the charity, the Patients Association. Their report, out today, says the number of people waiting over the 18 weeks NHS target for elective surgery is up by almost 80%. In the East Midlands more than a thousand patients waited over 18 weeks last year for elective surgery - which includes hip, knee and hernia operations. The government attacked the charity's findings as unreliable and misleading. We get reaction to this, and also take your calls on the topic.

Also in the show, what's it really like to be a lifeguard? Jack Rafferty finds out. Dale Neal investigates HGV blind spots, and Jonathan is crossing blades as he learns to Fence!
