MP tweets smiley face after Farage resigns
UKIP's only MP Douglas Carswell said he will not stand for the leadership following the resignation of party leader Nigel Farage.
Daily Politics presenter Jo Coburn asked why he tweeted an image of a smiley face after Mr Farage's speech, and the MP replied: "I tweet smiley faces all the time, I'm very optimistic."
Mr Carswell has had an uneasy relationship with Mr Farage and told the programme: "I'll be honest, six months ago I was talking about the need for change. I do think all parties ultimately benefit from having this internal democratic inclusive contests because it's a way of generating new ideas and allowing the most able to get to the top."
