The 'Sudanese Supremes' reunite
The Nightingales were one of Sudan's best loved girl bands. The three sisters, Amal, Hadia and Hayat Talsam, were known in their 1970s heyday as the "Sudanese Supremes" with their stylish bobs, matching dresses and soulful ballads. The Nightingales kept going until 1988, when they played their final concert in the capital Khartoum. Now, 45 years after their debut, they have reunited and are about to start their world tour. Hadia and Amal talked to Newsday's Nkem Ifejika about what life was like as part of a girl band.
