Korean Author Wins International Booker Prize

The Vegetarian, a novel about a woman who gives up eating meat, has won the 2016 Man Booker International Prize. Weekend has been featuring all six books shortlisted for the Man Booker International Prize, which gives equal recognition to the writer and the translator.

The book, written by the Korean writer Han Kang and translated by Deborah Smith, is a violent and darkly erotic story about a young woman who, when she gives up eating meat, sets off a series of events which tear her extended family apart, starting with her own marriage.

Before the announcement , Weekend's Paul Henley was joined by the book's translator, Deborah Smith, in London and the book's author, Han Kang from Seoul, who told us more about the book's main character.
