The religious history of the Slavic people and its consequences.
The Slavs straddle the east-west divide between Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches and this has had significant political consequences. "The divide between Eastern and Western Christendom is more important than the common denominator of being Slavic people," says Czech historian Jacques Rupnik.
